Session 1359 Metrology Experiment for Engineering Students: Platinum Resistance Temperature Detector

چکیده
This paper describes the use of a platinum resistance temperature detector to develop a calibration experiment and to introduce metrology principles. The Callender-Van Dusen equation is used to analyze the temperature-resistance characteristic of a detector. Linearity of this characteristic is explored using a MATLAB simulation. Resistance is measured at four different temperatures to estimate all of the parameters in CallenderVan Dusen equation. Since the uncertainty of temperature and resistance measurements during calibration determines the accuracy of the temperature measurements using platinum detector, it is necessary to assess the calibration errors. A simulation package is developed that applies different levels of errors into measurements used for parameter estimation. The goal is to study the influence of calibration uncertainty on the temperature detector’s readings. The next challenge is a practical realization of the calibration process. A simple experiment is proposed and the least square fit is used to estimate the parameters.

متن کاملNanostructuring Platinum Nanoparticles on Ni/Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ Anode for Low Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell via Single-step Infiltration: A Case Study
With the aim of promoting the Ni/Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ (Ni/GDC20) cermet anodic performance of low temperature solid oxide fuel cell (LT-SOFC) [1], nanostructuring platinum nanoparticles on NiO/GDC composite was done by single-step wet-infiltration of hexachloroplatinic acid hexahydrate (H2PtCl6.6H2O) precursor on NiO/GDC20 composite. The anodic polarization resistance was measured using symmetr...
متن کاملDesign, Fabrication and Sensitivity Analysis of the Resistance Temperature Detector Thin Film Sensors
Thin film heat transfer sensors are most cost effective resistance temperature detector (RTD) sensors for dynamic temperature measurements mainly because of very fast response time (milliseconds or less). These sensors are prepared by deposited high conducting very sensitive gauge material (platinum/nickel/silver) on the insulating surface (pyrex/macor/quartz). The purpose of this work is to fa...
متن کاملNickel Base Superalloy Rene®80 – The Effect of High Temperature Cyclic Oxidation on Platinum-Aluminide Coating Features
Nickel base superalloy alloys are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components, which in use are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments. The platinum aluminide coatings described here have been developed to protect nickel base superalloy alloys from oxidation. In this study, the effect of cyclic oxidation, platinum layer thickness and aluminizing process on beha...
